IVAN D. BELL

Ivan D. Bell, beloved husband and father passed away Friday, April 21, 2006, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born November 24, 1913, near Sumner, Illinois, to Fred and Inda Bell and on November 24, 1932, married Pauline Ellis, with whom he had three children, Dr. Robert F. Bell (wife Christel) of Northport, Alabama, Dr. Ivan Don Bell (wife Mary) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Sara Ann Corry (husband Ron) of Robinson, Illinois. His wife Pauline (Ellis) Bell died on March 12, 1994. He then married Mary Frances Tipton Bell on July 5, 1995 and she survives. He was also preceded in death by his brother Virgil Bell. He had eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Howell of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Dorothy Lansdowne of Stewart, Florida.

He served as president of the school board, chamber of commerce, and the Lions Club in Palestine, Illinois, where for many years he was proprietor of Bell's Grocery. He had a long association as a construction superintendent with Sheehan Pipeline Construction Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He particularly enjoyed gardening and was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Palestine and the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute. He will always be remembered for his cheerfulness and, above all, for the generosity with which he gave of his time and of himself to others.

Visitations will be Tuesday, April 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., DST, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, Illinois, and from 9:00-11:00 a.m., EST, Wednesday, April 26, at the First Baptist Church, 4701 East Poplar Drive in Terre Haute, Indiana. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m., EST, in Terre Haute with the Reverend Bernie Jackson and the Reverend Steve Newman presiding. Graveside services and interment will be at 3:00 p.m., DST, Wednesday, April 26, at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial gifts be made to the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute or the First Christian Church of Palestine, Illinois.
