KENT R. BURKETT
Kent R. Burkett, 88 of Palestine, IL, died at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL at 9:23 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2006. He was born February 16, 1918 in Palestine, the son of Fred Burkett and Alta M. Richards Burkett.
Kent had owned and operated the Palestine Insurance Agency for over 45 years. He served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII, serving as Crew Chief on a B17 bomber. He was a member of the Palestine First Christian Church; past member of the Palestine Lions Club; a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69; and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member and Treasurer of the Palestine Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was selected as Man of the Year by the Palestine Chamber of Commerce and had served as Treasurer of the LaMotte Township Fire Department for many years.
He married Ada Jane Potter on July 23, 1945 and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Richey.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Rad and Paula Burkett, Palestine; 2 grandchildren and their spouses, Brett and Autumn Burkett, Palestine and Amanda and J. R. Dunlap, Palestine; 3 great grandchildren, Allison Dunlap, Brennen Burkett, and Charlie Ann Burkett; his sister, Elizabeth Tudor, rural Palestine; his brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Mary Burkett, Winchester, VA; special friends, Lee and Phyllis Emery, North Port, Fl, and their sons and wives, John and Kim Emery, Dover, TN and David and Andrea Emery, Ackworth, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Jan Kincaid will be in charge of services. Burial is in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25th . Memorials may be made to the Palestine First Christian Church with envelopes at the funeral home.
