Edward "Sonny" Arbuckle

May 9, 1928 — March 22, 2018

Edward “Sonny” Arbuckle, 89, of Marshall, IL, died at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in the comfort of his home. He was born May 9, 1928 in New York, New York, the son of Edmund “Dick” Arbuckle and Kathryn (Sandusky) Arbuckle. He was a 1946 graduate of Hutsonville High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy from February 9, 1946 until his honorable discharge on December 10, 1947. He married the love of his life, Wanda Lee Adams on April 12, 1950. He worked hard to provide for her and their family and was a longtime ironworker and a member of Terre Haute Local #439. He was a card-carrying member of the carpenter’s union as well. For over twenty years, Ed worked at Velsicol Chemical in Marshall until it closed, and he went back into ironworking. He and Wanda also built and operated “Custard’s Last Stand”, a staple in the community for a number of years. Away from work, Ed could almost always be found outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, who was the self-proclaimed “best shot around”. As such, his family never quite knew what to expect on the dinner table. He also spent a good portion of time on the road. Few things brought him more joy than traveling alongside his family, collecting nearly as many memories as miles on his odometer. Ed and Wanda were longtime members of the West Union Christian Church before they retired to Florida for over 20 years. Upon their return to Clark County, they joined the Marshall First Christian Church, where they have been members ever since. Ed was also a member of the York Lodge #313 in West Union as well as the West Union American Legion Post #1130, where he served as commander for several years. Ed will long be remembered as a strong, but generous man. He gave his all to his country, to his community, and to his family, who continue to carry his legacy of purpose and unrelenting determination. He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Wanda Arbuckle (Marshall, IL); by his daughter & son-in-law, Kathy & Mike Malone (Marshall, IL); by his daughter-in-law, Vicky Arbuckle (Norman, OK); by his grandchildren, Sheena Hanson (Marshall, IL), Nicole Arbuckle (Tulsa, OK), Tawne & Fred Woods (Marshall, IL), Cachet & Richy Funkhouser (Marshall, IL), Dr. Sarah & Chad Roberts (Dallas, TX), and Dallas Volk (Marshall, IL); by his step-grandson, Mike Wisdom (Robinson, IL); and by his great-grandchildren, Gracie, Jaiden, Tanner, Jovie, DaLynn, and Pruitt. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, William “Bill” D. Arbuckle. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in the Harrison Cemetery, where military honors will be given by the West Union American Legion Post #1130. Memorials may be made to the Pinehaven Christian Children’s Ranch, a program near and dear to Ed’s heart. Its aim is to provide a stable, controlled, secure environment in which young people can reach the potential that God has placed within them. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
