James Leon Ballew, 70, of Palestine, IL, died at 6:39 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born January 3, 1945 in Robinson, IL, the son of William Lindsey Ballew & Lucinda Channey Ballew. He was a truck driver for Turner Gravel for 27 years. When he retired from trucking, Jim sold produce in Robinson for over 10 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time on the river. He will be remembered for his love of cooking and baking, and his talents will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Robinson Moose Lodge, the Gordon Gun Club, and the Round Grove Sportsman Club in Martinsville, IL. He married his wife, Sue on October 9, 1974, and she preceded him in death on March 25, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Ronnie Ballew and Billie Ballew. He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Kenneth Leon Ballew & Amanda Adkins (Robinson, IL); his grandson, Kody Ballew (Robinson, IL); his brothers, Donnie Ballew, Frank Ballew, and Joe Ballew; his sisters, Esther Mills and Gloria Lewis; as well as several nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26th at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to DaVita Dialysis, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
