Joseph Milton Hayek, Jr.

Joseph Milton Hayek, Jr. 88, of Marshall died at 10:25 a.m. EST on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born October 2, 1924 in Detroit, MI, the son of Joseph Milton Hayek, Sr. & Edythe Beatrice (Haddix) Hayek. Junior served his country in the Army during World War II in the Phillipines, where he received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was an ironworker, and retired from Local #439 in Terre Haute. This year, Junior was recognized by Local #22 for 55 years in the union. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post #90 in Marshall; he was also a member of the VFW Post #5975 in Marshall; the York Masonic Lodge #313, where he was raised to Master Mason in 1957; the Shriners; the Kerman Grotto in West Terre Haute; the 1st Christian Church in West Union; and he attended the 1st Christian Church in Marshall. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed watching NASCAR races.Junior married Ruth E. (Isbell) Hayek on January 21, 1947, and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Judith Ann (Hayek) Lindley on November 24, 1981.He is survived by his grandchildren and their spouses, Lori LeeAnn & Mark Thompson (West Terre Haute) and Laci Lynett & Roy Hogue (Terre Haute); four great-grandchildren, Logan Thompson, Holden Thompson, Madison Thompson, and Sydney Paige Hogue.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. CST on Monday, November 26th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery, with military services being conducted by the combined units of the Marshall American Legion Post # 90 and the Marshall VFW Post #5975. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until service time at 3:00 p.m. CST.
