Larry Unkefer

January 31, 1947 — October 29, 2017

Larry Unkefer, 70, of Robinson, IL, died at 2:00 a.m. (EST) on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born January 31, 1947 in Alliance, OH, the son of Roy Unkefer and Effie Galeno. Larry was a 1965 graduate of Colton High School in Colton, CA. A standout athlete in high school, he continued to play baseball at San Bernardino Valley College before being drafted into the military. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, where he was a Military Policeman. Following his honorable discharge, he went to work for Crane Pottery in Colton, CA, where he worked for many years before moving to Robinson, IL in 1987. In Robinson, he was a supervisor at Briggs Pottery until 1995. Away from work, he could often be found outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also took great pride in his yard, and was always busying himself with yardwork. When he wasn’t outside, he was constantly tinkering and building things. Friends and family will remember a man who wasn’t one to let life pass him by. He lived life fully, and accomplished much. He married Sandy Siebert on December 6, 1980, and she survives. He is also survived by his mother, Effie Unkefer (Colton, CA); by his children, Danielle & James Hobgood (Riverside, CA), Anjanette Unkefer (Redlands, CA), Jonathan & Chelsea Unkefer (Robinson, IL), Natalie & Tony Sucic (St. Louis, MO); by his grandchildren, Ericka, Trent, Ashlyn, Chloe, Danny, and River; by his sister, Linda Housley (Redlands, CA); by his brother, Greg Unkefer (Colton, CA); as well as several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Unkefer and by his brother, Kenny Unkefer. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Burial will be held at a later date in the Riverside National Cemetery in California. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
