Obituary for Marjorie Louise Cornwell

Marjorie Louise Cornwell, 97, formerly of West York, IL, died at 4:15 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon, IL. She was born August 20, 1921 in Marion County, IL, the daughter of Arvie Mulvany & Elsie (O’Dell) Mulvany, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Garnet W. Cornwell in Terre Haute, IN on November 30, 1939, and he preceded her in death on June 23, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Helen O’Dell and Jaunita Combs; and by her brothers, Lester Dale Mulvany and Darrell Mulvany.

She is survived by her children, Ronda Lee & Ron Olson (White Bear Lake, MN), Ronald Eugene & Joyce Cornwell (Edwardsville, IL), Ray Bryan & Carolyn Cornwell (Savoy, IL), and Maryann Sweet (Roseville, MN); by her grandchildren, Juli Kay & Jim McGue (Jacksonville, FL), Bryan & Marsha Cornwell (Leroy, IL), Cynthia & John McCachern (Edmond, OK), Carla & Basil Demczak (Downers Grove, IL), Debbie Crowder (Tampa, FL), Dale & Lori Olson (Stewartville, MN), Kim Schmidt (Chicago, IL), and Kris Schmidt (Urbana, IL); by her great-grandchildren, Alex & Erin Demczak (Columbia, MO), Morgan Demczak (Branson, MO), Carey & Haley McCachern (Tucson, AZ), Carson McCachern (Edmond, OK), Christiana Crowder (Tampa, FL), Brendan Crowder (Tampa, FL), Nicole Olson (Stewartville, MN), Daniel Olson (Stewartville, MN), Patrick Olson (Stewartville, MN), Katherine Olson (Stewartville, MN), Allyson Reis (Nashville, TN), Zane Dubson (Champaign, IL), Stephen Cornwell (Leroy, IL), Sam Cornwell (Leroy, IL), Nick Cornwell (Leroy, IL), and Mason Cagle (Leroy, IL); by her brother, Billy Mulvany (Provo, UT); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marjorie grew up in Marion County, but moved to Clark County alongside her husband, Garnet in 1944. There, her life was dedicated to making a home for her beloved family and to playing a supporting role as a farmer and pastor’s wife to her husband. After his death in 1989, she moved to Zeigler, IL, where she lived for 20 years before moving to Savoy, IL for 5 years and then to the Edwardsville area, where she has lived for the last 3 years of her life.

Anyone who knew her could attest to the fact that few things in this world brought her more joy than shopping, and this provided her with countless hours of enjoyment. A woman of faith, she could often be found deep in her Bible before her eyesight robbed her of the ability to do so. She also enjoyed playing hymns on the piano, and her talents were put to good use at the Melrose Church of God, where she was a longtime member. She was also a past member of Clark County HCE.

Marjorie Cornwell was truly one-of-a-kind. She will be remembered as a patient, caring soul, and her memory lives on in the hearts of the family she loved.

A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1st at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Services will immediately follow and will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Cynthia C. McCachern and Wes Cornwell officiating. Burial will be in Bailiff Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the “Bailiff Cemetery Association” or to the “Melrose Church of God”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
