Michael “Whitey” Hanson, 68, of Robinson, IL, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in the comfort of his home in Robinson, IL. He was born on May 11, 1949 in Robinson, IL, the son of Charles Eugene Hanson & Maureen Leonard, both of whom preceded in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Diane (Pethtel) Hanson; by his step-daughter, Amy Sue Moore; by his brother, Roger Hanson; and by his grandson, Chase Newman. He married Cindy Wisdom on September 15, 2015 and she survives. He is also survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Todd & Mitzi Hanson (Stoy, IL) and Troy & Heather Hanson (West York, IL); by his step-children, James & Melissa Hanson (Robinson, IL), Constance Hanson (Robinson, IL), Lenny Hanson (Robinson, IL), and Chucky & Traci Moore; by 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; by his first wife, Sharon Hanson (Robinson, IL); by his siblings, Chris Houston (Franklin, IN), Shirley & Jim Seaney (Robinson, IL), Vickie & Frank Houston (Godfrey, IL), Sharon & Patrick Ochs (Robinson, IL), Lori & David Clark (York, IL), Steve & Connie Hanson (Greenup, IL), and Jay & Ione Hanson (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Mike grew up in Robinson and was a graduate of Robinson High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, the Navy’s construction force. Following his discharge in 1970, he became a union painter, a job that took him all over for work. No matter where he went, he took his fishing pole along. He was, by all accounts, an avid sportsman; if didn’t have a fishing pole in his hand, he had his gun or bow out on a hunt. Mike will be remembered as a kind and loving soul who was willing to give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. His generous spirit could never be forgotten. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23rd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Friday at the funeral home with burial following in the Shire Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69, and Marine Corps League Det #546, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Celebrant Curt Goodwine will officiate the services.
