Naomi Gray

Naomi Gray, 80, of Graysville, IN, died at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Heritage Health in Robinson, IL. She was born October 27, 1935 in Marshall, IL, the daughter of Silas Elmer Wheeldon & Golda Evelyn (Vice) Wheeldon, both of whom preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, Robert Dean Gray, on June 2, 1973, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2014. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lavern Wheeldon and Harold Wheeldon. She is survived by her daughter, Junia Ruth Gray (Sullivan, IN); by her son & daughter-in-law, Philip Dean & Crystal Gray (Foosland, IL); by 12 grandchildren; by her sister & brother-in-law, Nancy & Paul Gray (Palestine, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Naomi attended Palestine High School before graduating from Frankfort Pilgrim College in 1954. In her younger days, she and her sister Nancy traveled all around regional churches and camps, singing as The Wheeldon Sisters. Her love of music continued for the rest of her life, and she enjoyed playing the piano and organ for many years. When she married Bob in 1973, her life was made complete. She was a dedicated housewife, and made the house she shared with Bob, Junia, and Philip into a home. Her family will remember her as a wonderful teacher, a fantastic cook, as well as a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Palestine. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26th at the Pilgrim Holiness Church (rural Palestine, IL). Funeral services will follow and will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Paul Gray officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery (rural Palestine, IL). The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pilgrim Holiness All Purpose Building or to Gideon’s International, with envelopes available at the church.
