Peggy Ann Shute, 88, of Robinson, IL, formerly of Casey, IL and Bridgeport, IL, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born August 3, 1927 in Chicago, IL, one of the eleven children of Harry McElwain & Martha Maddox McElwain, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Darrell Shute on September 18, 1945, and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Patti Jean Snider and Martha Ann Baker; and by two sisters and four brothers, Leatha Connelly, Mary Sharpe, Keith McElwain, Sonny McElwain, Don McElwain, and Gene McElwain. Peggy is survived by her son-in-law, Walter 'Herb' Baker (Eldorado, IL); by her four grandchildren, John & Dawn Baker (Springfield, IL), Jennifer Baker (Eldorado, IL), Jason Snider (Oblong, IL), and Jeremy & Tiffany Snider (Oblong, IL); by her great-grandchildren, Brayden Robson, Nevaeh Robson, Grant Baker, Izaiah Baker, Alayna Snider and Wyatt Snider; by three brothers, Gale McElwain (NM), Gordon McElwain (NJ), and Terry McElwain (Champaign, IL); by her sister, Linda Spencer (HI); as well as several nieces and nephews. Peggy was a very creative soul, and this creativity took to a number of mediums. She was talented with a brush, and oil painted for years, and was able to take her talents to Spieth Studio in Olney, IL for several years. She also loved to write, and penned a number of short stories over the years. Another source of joy in her life was square dancing, a past time enjoyed alongside her husband, with whom she also spent many a day fishing in Patoka Lake. She was a Past President of the Marathon Auxiliary. She enjoyed a long and fruitful life. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Graveside services will follow the visitation and will be held at the Hutsonville Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service.
