Randy Hemrich

February 2, 1954 — November 2, 2021

Randy Hemrich, 67, of Flat Rock, IL, died November 2, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. He was born February 2, 1954, in Kankakee, IL, the son of John & Rowena (Foster) Hemrich. Their young family moved to the Flat Rock area in 1966, and this would serve as Randy's home for the rest of his life. He attended school in Robinson and was a 1972 graduate of Robinson High School. As a young man, he worked with Dr. Trimble at his veterinary, that is, before he joined Robinson Laborers Local #1280 in March of 1975. Most of his career found him working as a janitor for the Marathon office building, a job that he took great pride in and did with excellence until finally retiring in May of 2004. Anyone who knew Randy could attest to his love of all-things automobile. He was a lifelong auto racing fan, following both drag racing and NASCAR events, and was particularly drawn to Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr. He was the proud owner of a '66 Chevelle and a staple of the Crawford County Collectibles Car Club. In fact, he was known to make an appearance at car shows all over the region! Though he enjoyed these events, nothing brought more life to his living than simply spending time with his loved ones, especially his cherished family. He married Beverly Rich on May 7, 1976, and to this union were born a son, Jeff, and a daughter, Sarah. He cared and provided for them and helped to mold them into the people they are today. His grandson, Kolton, in particular, was the apple of his eye, and Randy cherished every opportunity he had to spend time with him. His dogs were his constant companions, and he loved them dearly as well. He also cherished the camaraderie of his fellow regulars at the Maxwell House Cafe, where he went for coffee nearly every morning. Sundays found him worshipping alongside his church family at the Flat Rock Free Methodist Church, where he has attended over these past few years. We will remember Randy as a strong-willed (if not stubborn) man whose creed was to do all things with excellence. What he has left behind is a felt legacy of value and goodness that will live on in our hearts and lives forever. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Hemrich; by his children, Jeff & Krista Hemrich and Sarah Hemrich; by his grandson, Kolton Hemrich; by his brother, Joe Hemrich; by his mother-in-law, Patricia Rich; by his brother-in-law, Stephen Eugene & Judy Rich; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his father-in-law, Burl Rich. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Gene Beard officiating. A live stream of his service will be available on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream .
