After a long journey through this world, Barbara Louise Medsker made it home on January 11th, 2015. She passed into paradise at peace and surrounded by family at the Sullivan County Community Hospital following complications from an illness. The battle was short but fierce and in the end she rested from the struggle victorious in Christ her Savior. Jesus had already won the battle for her no matter the outcome. Barbara was born November 28th, 1932 to Thelma and Walter Smith and had one brother, Richard Smith. Thelma later remarried to Max Springer. On September 22, 1951, Barbara married Charles Noel Medsker, the love of her life and faithful companion through all life's ups and downs, adventures and troubles. Barbara's mother, father, step-father, husband and brother all preceded her in death, along with one grandchild, Jasonte Medsker. Barbara and Charles formed a family with six children that they built on the foundation of the Christian faith, from which they never departed or wavered. There are not enough words to tell all of their journey, their growth, kindness, wisdom, strength; the family vacations; the hard work; the activities of children and grandchildren. She was a faithful church member and a long time employee at Crawford Memorial Hospital. Barbara's legacy will be one of tenacity in the face of trials, faithfulness in trying times, and love beyond measure. She was a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and the good things she set in motion in this life will cascade through the generations to come and result in tremendous rewards at the judgment seat of Christ. Barbara is survived by her six children Charles and Mary Medsker of Casey, IL, Jerry Medsker of Robinson IL, Marian and Jamie Parish of Vincennes, IN, Judy Medsker of Brazil, IN, Brian and Debbie Medsker of Robinson, IL, and Mark and Marilyn Medsker of Kennewick, WA. Barbara is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. We mourn her loss from us, but we know she is in paradise and she is the one mourning that the rest of us have to stay here in this world a little longer. We who remain can only imagine the wonders she now knows: 'Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.' A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Phil Young officiating the service. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the New Hebron Christian School or to the Oblong Children’s Home, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
