Bertha Elizabeth (Treadway) Munton, 97, of Anaheim, CA, formerly of Palestine, IL, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at her home in Anaheim. She was born June 12, 1919, the daughter of Joseph Frank Treadway and Orpha (Kincaid) Treadway, both of whom preceded her in death. She met Darrell Edward Munton in a Sunday school class in Peoria, IL, after which, he took her roller skating. They were married in 1938, and had 49 years together before he preceded her in death on January 16, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, James Douglas Treadway, Charles Earl Treadway, Manford Paul Treadway, Geneva Fern Munton, Warren Gail Treadway, Marjorie Ghloe Hanlon, and Francis Mildred Treadway. In 1951, she and Darrell bought the farm in Palestine, and they worked hard for 21 years before they sold the farm and made their way to Anaheim, CA, where they lived happily ever after until Darrell's death. In her later years, she stayed busy cooking and taking "the girls" to the Senior Center for movies and cards. Bertha was the oldest living member of the Pleasant View Church. She had many cherished memories of her parents and siblings growing up in the church, which gave it a special place in her heart. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 13th at the Pleasant View Cemetery (rural Palestine, IL). Her nephew, Pastor Doug Munton will officiate the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
