Betty Ann Newlin

March 1, 1933 — November 14, 2020

Betty Ann Newlin, 87, of Paris, IL, formerly of West Union, IL, died on November 14, 2020, at Paris Healthcare Center. She was born March 1, 1933, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Henry & Esther (Frost) Matteson. As a young child, her family moved to the West Union area, where she was raised on the family farm just north of Old York. She attended school at the Old York School before finishing her education at Hutsonville High School, where she graduated in 1951. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Aubry Newlin, on June 23, 1951. She worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable, loving home for him as well as their two beloved children, Peggy and Tony. These early years often found Betty and company camping all around local state parks in a camper they had converted from the Vigo County Library's old "Bookmobile". These were treasured times that she would remember fondly for the rest of her life. Back home, her free time was often spent with a needle and thread. Betty was a talented seamstress who was able to stitch together clothes for her young family. Eventually, quilting became a great passion of hers, and she would go on to spend countless hours creating beautiful heirlooms that her loved ones will cherish for years to come. She was a keen reader who paired her love of the written word with the love she had for her Savior, having established a daily rhythm of reading from her Bible, Guidepost, and Our Daily Bread. It was evident that her faith was a constant source of peace and assurance over every hill and through every valley of her life. We find that same peace and assurance knowing that the faith she clung to throughout her 87 years has been made sight. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Peggy & Larry Neal (Paris, IL); by her son & daughter-in-law, Tony & Karen Newlin (Corydon, IN); by her grandchildren & their spouses, Jeremy & Elizabeth Neal, Lori & Steve Craig, Kimberly & Dallas Coats, Chris & Kara Neal, Hanna & Arthur Rasco, Jessica & Adam Fink, Kelly & Frank Stivers, and Luke Newlin; by fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; by her brother-in-law, Kenneth Newlin; by her sister-in-law, Radell LaForge; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Esther Matteson; by her husband of 43 years, Aubry Newlin; by her sister, Patience Correll; by her brother, Thomas Matteson; as well as several in-laws. A public visitation will be held from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 19th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. *Please note that social distancing measures will be in place, and that it will be required that all visitors wear face coverings while in the building.* Memorials may be made to the "Edgar County Community Foundation", with proceeds to be given to the DO It Cancer Group, a charity near and dear to Betty's heart. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow in the York Cemetery.
