Betty Lou Cravens, 87, of Robinson, IL, died at 2:35 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. She was born on May 2, 1930 in Lawrence County, IL, the daughter of Willard & Carrie (Leonard) Akers, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Robert Cravens on December 17, 1948. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Akers, Wayne Akers, and Robert Akers. She is survived by her husband, Robert; by her daughters & sons-in-law, Deborah & Ronald Newlin (Hutsonville, IL), and Angela & Max Mitchell (rural Robinson, IL); by her son & daughter-in-law, Russell Dee & Kara Cravens (Greenwood, IN); by her brother, Dee Akers (Bridgeport, IL); also by her grandchildren, Karyn Moore, Misty Monk, Damon Mitchell, Sean & Jenni Cravens, Justin & Ashley Cravens, Amelia Cravens, Alex & Hilary Gerard, Aaron Gerard, and Rane Cravens; by her great-grandchildren, Laci & Darrick Harden, Austin & Moriah Callahan, Abby Callahan, Zane Heleine, Aubrey Heleine, Marian Heleine, Faith Monk, Quinton Cravens, Jackie & Jared Irvin, Jalyn McCauley, and Jocelyn "Bugs" Cravens; and by her great-great-grandchildren, Parker Harden and Keelie Harden. Betty graduated in 1948 from Bridgeport High School, and later attended business college for accounting. She worked for 23 years as an accounting clerk at Victor Dana. Betty was a long-time member of the Robinson Free Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, and grandmother. In her free time, she enjoyed baking, sewing, and doing crafts. She also enjoyed traveling in her younger years. She was a one-of-a-kind soul who will never be forgotten. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial following in the Robinson New Cemetery. Pastor Adam Conder will be officiating the services. Memorials may be made to Robinson Free Methodist Church, Oblong Children’s Christian Home, or New Hebron Christian School. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
