Betty Rose Applegate

Betty Rose Applegate, 91, of Casey, IL, died at 11:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Casey Health Center in Casey, IL. She was born June 24, 1926 in Hume, IL, the daughter of Guy Glidewell & Bertha Pearl (Myers) Glidewell, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Leonard Applegate on January 15, 1947, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn; and four brothers, Carl, John, Tom, and Guy, Jr.; and a sibling in infancy. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Vincent (St. Louis, MO); by her son, Lance Applegate (Casey, IL); by her grandchildren, Monica & Pat Conners (St. Louis, MO), Christina & Sean Gaddy (St. Louis, MO), Katrina & Aaron Fulling (Palestine, IL), and Lance Applegate, Jr. (Rantoul, IL); by several great-grandchildren; by her sister & brother-in-law, Claris & Everett Hitt (Toledo, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty was raised in Hazel Dell and was a graduate of Casey High School. She went on to work as a manager at Central Supply for Mercy Hospital, where she retired in 1980s. Away from work, Betty could almost always be found outdoors. She loved working outside and tending to her garden. Anyone who knew her could attest that she was blessed with a green thumb. She also demonstrated an aptitude for cooking; her ham salad, spaghetti salad, and custard pie being the stuff of legend. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 27th at the Hazel Dell Cemetery. Celebrant Curt Goodwine is officiating the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. In honor of her love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, with envelopes available at the cemetery.
