Bud S. Martin, 87, of Palestine, IL, went to be with the Lord at 8:42 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born October 8, 1928 in in Palestine, IL, the son of Ben Martin & Inez Dillman Martin, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Helen McCammon on December 30, 1951, and she preceded him in death on February 10, 2002. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Naomi Martin and Sharon “Sis” Hermanson; as well as his grandson, Tanner Harvey. He is survived by his children & their spouses, Robert & Sherry Martin (Colorado), Deb & Curt Armstrong (Palestine, IL), JL Martin & Linda Best (Palestine, IL), and Tim & Nicole Martin (Robinson, IL). “Pamp” loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren, Tucker Harvey, Kellie Martin, Jess & Emily Martin, Taylor Martin, Skylar Martin, Jenson Martin, Damien Martin, Zoe Martin, Tiffany & Justin Musselwhite, and Ashlee & Justin Hatten, his great-grandchildren, Sailor Musselwhite, Scout Musselwhite, and Masen Hatten, as well as a great-granddaughter on the way, Riley Ann Martin. He is also survived by his in-laws, Juanita Richards (Odessa, TX), Beulah & Bob Bowen (Palestine, IL), Shirley McCammon (Palestine, IL), and Pete McCammon (Palestine, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Bud was a 1946 graduate of Palestine High School. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from June 4, 1946 to March 26, 1948. Back home, he went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad before going to work for the Hutsonville CIPS Plant, where he worked for over 35 years before retiring in 1991. Away from work, he could often be found riding his bicycle, and was known to ride 16 miles each day. He also enjoyed spending time on the river and caring for his beloved grandchildren. He was a member of the Outer West Market Church of Christ as well as the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and was also a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Palestine. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, IL. A memorial service will follow and will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Tim Watson officiating the service. Military rites will be conducted by the combined Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, Robinson American Legion Post #69, Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and Palestine AmVets Post #33. Burial will be held at a later time at the Palestine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to “Debra Armstrong”, who will set up a LTC nursing scholarship in Bud’s name.
