Burl L. Rich, 87, of Robinson, formerly of Flat Rock, IL died at 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born September 6, 1926 in Honeycreek Township, the son of Lewis Samuel Rich & Mary Augusta Wallace. Burl served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Back home, he worked for Marathon Oil for 39 years before retiring in May of 1985. He was a longtime United Methodist lay pastor and had attended South Union Church. Burl married Patricia Ann Inboden on June 2, 1951, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Stephen Eugene & Judy Rich (Bellaire, IL); his daughter & son-in-law, Beverly Ann & Randy Hemrich (Flat Rock, IL); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as his sister, Edith Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Oliver Ray Rich. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Tohill Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Memorials may be made to Genealogy Research at the Robinson Public Library, with envelopes available at the cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements.
