Carol Joyce Rich, 87, of Robinson, IL, died at 7:38 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Glenburn Home in Linton, IN. She was born December 25, 1930 in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Chester E. Hout & Madeline M. (Burrows) Hout, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Loy Rich, Jr. on October 3, 1948 and he preceded her in death on December 24, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Penny Lee Smith & Janet Kay Lockhart; by a grandson; by her brother, Chester Hout, Jr.; and by her sister, Betty Ann Dobbs. She is survived by three grandsons & their spouses, Brian & Michelle Lockhart (Linton, IN), Nathan & Tracey Lockhart (Greenwood, IN), and Brent Smith (Indianapolis, IN); by 6 great-grandchildren, Preston Lockhart, Sydney Lockhart, Hans Lockhart, Collette Lockhart, Eric Smith, and Justin Smith; by her son-in-law, Ray Lockhart (Vincennes, IN); by her sister, Doreen Parker (Robinson, IL); as well as many nieces and nephews. Carol grew up in California before moving to Illinois to begin her life with Loy. It was here she dedicated her life to being a homemaker. Away from home, she could often be found at South Union Church, where she and Loy were longtime and active members. Carol was also a member of the Crawford Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary Group. She was a great lover of music, and it played a vital role in her life. Friends and family alike will long remember Carol as a sweet and caring soul who was patient to a fault. Her positive, uplifting nature will never be forgotten. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17th at the South Union Church in Flat Rock, IL. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Tohill Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Pinehaven Christian Children’s Ranch, a residential, year-round program aimed at providing a stable, controlled, secure environment in which young people can reach the potential that God has placed within them. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
