Carol Sue Maggard, 80, of Palestine, IL, died at 8:27 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. She was born October 14, 1936 in Lawrenceville, IL, the daughter of Roy Horton & Hazel Marie (Stevens) Horton, both of whom preceded her in death. She married William Albert Maggard on August 25, 1979, and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2011. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patty and Judy; and by two brothers, Rusty and Bob. She is survived by her son, Frank Jonathan Horton (Palestine, IL); by two daughters, Linda Cochran & Bill Ward (Hamilton, OH) and Naomi Brewer (Hamilton, OH); by her grandchildren & their spouses, Travis & Amanda Horton (Palestine, IL), Tabitha & Lance Seaney (Robinson, IL), William Ward (Hamilton, OH), Charles Brewer (Hamilton, OH), and Michelle Brewer (Hamilton, OH); by two sisters, Roberta Jean & Jolly Berkhead (Middletown, OH); as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends in both Hamilton, OH and Palestine, IL. Carol worked for Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL for many years as a dietician before moving to Hamilton, OH, where she worked as a bartender. Her many friends and dear family will remember a joyous soul who could make anyone laugh. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20th at the Palestine Cemetery, with Pastor Lee Gurley officiating the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
