Carolyn McGahey, 82, of Robinson, IL, died June 30, 2014 at 4:58 p.m. (EST) at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born September 24, 1931 in Robinson, the daughter of H.E. Burckhalter & Ruth Burks Burckhalter. Carolyn graduated Robinson High School in the Class of 1949, and went on to graduate from DePauw University, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She was a home economics teacher in Niles, MI for seven years before moving back to Robinson. Back home, she was known for her avid volunteerism, having played an active role in the City Planning Commission, the Camp Fire Girls, the Cub Scouts, Crawford County University Women, as well as numerous school & youth activities. Carolyn was also a lifelong member of the Robinson First United Methodist Church. She loved to golf and fish alongside her husband, Jim. She is also remembered for her exceptional cooking and for her love of family, notably her grandchildren. Carolyn married Jim McGahey on March 25, 1961, and he survives. She is also survived by her children, Marcia & John Schmidlin (Palestine), Barbara & Nick Frain (Indianapolis, IN), and David & Sheri McGahey (Robinson, IL); seven grandchildren, Stephanie Schmidlin, Matthew Schmidlin, Ryan Frain, Luke Frain, Allison McGahey, Amy Jo McGahey, Colby McGahey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3rd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2nd at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the donor’s choice.
