Carolyn Poorman, 79, of West Union, IL, died at 3:28 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born January 3, 1937 in rural Hutsonville, IL the daughter of Ernest & Beulah (Nidey) Gurley both of whom preceded her in death. She married Marion “Dale” Poorman on July 24, 1954, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jodi Diane Poorman; by her son, Richard Dale Poorman; by her brothers, Morris, Robert, Forrest, Mervin, and Roger Gurley; by her brother-in-law, Richard Weck; and by her sister-in-law, Ada Gurley. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Brenda & Steve Atwood; by her son & daughter-in-law Ronnie & Bridget Poorman; by her daughter-in-law, Pam Poorman; by her grandchildren, Eric & Missy Atwood, Krista & Kevin Schulte, Jodi & Matthew Davison, Andy & Jamie Poorman, Kaycee & Justin Barnett, Chase Poorman, and Paige Poorman; by her great-grandchildren, Alayna and Nathan Atwood, Reagan, Reese and Nya Schulte, Kaylynn and Carter Davison, Hayden Poorman, and Dylan Barnett; by her sisters & brother-in-law, Linda & Emmitt Rains and Martha Jane Weck; by her sister-in-law, Barbara Gurley; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carolyn was a beautician for many years and kept shop at her home, which was always very tidy. She could always be found cleaning, and also cleaned for her church as well as for a number of area homes. She was also a fantastic cook, and her family will miss meals at her table. Carolyn will long be remembered for her caring heart, as well as her beautiful smile and warm nature. She was a member of the West Union Community Club, the West Union American Legion Auxiliary, as well as the West Union Christian Church. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2nd at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will follow and will be held 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Gillaspy officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Harrison Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the West Union Christian Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
