Carrie Jean Finkbiner, 89, of Robinson, IL passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Willowbrook Memory Care in Effingham, IL at 3:30pm. She was born November 28, 1926 in Palestine, IL, the daughter of Grover Brimberry & Laura Pearl Milam Brimberry, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Frank Leo Finkbiner on October 15, 1948, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1998. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leone Brimberry, Don Brimberry, and Charles Brimberry; and three sisters, Ione Weaver, Ruth Shipman and Flora Brimberry. Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Pecoff (Lewiston, ID); two sons & a daughter-in-law, Ron Finkbiner (Robinson, IL) and Kyle & Rebecca Finkbiner (Incline Village, NV); her daughter-in-law, Jolie Runyan (Robinson, IL); four grandchildren, Lisa Broemeling (Seattle, WA), Sierra Crawford (Lewiston, ID), Anika Panetti (Robinson, IL) and Destin Finkbiner (Robinson, IL); one great-granddaughter, Briana Rain Panetti (Robinson, IL); one great-grandson, Griffin Kayde Panetti; and several nieces and nephews. Carrie was raised in Palestine, and after marriage lived in Lebanon, IL, Dallas, TX, and Los Angeles, CA, where her husband prepared himself for the United Methodist Clergy by attending schools in those cities. They lived and ministered in California for 38 years before retiring and moving back to Illinois, where they built a home and dedicated it as a wildlife preserve to the State of Illinois. Carrie was a beloved homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and truly enjoyed her family. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening both flowers and vegetables, feeding birds, planting trees. Inside, she found great satisfaction in cooking new recipes and desserts, quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her library consisted of many types of books, with a particular emphasis on spiritual and meditational matters. Carrie was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ruth Lind Circle, Homemakers Extension, Friendly Neighbors Unit, Palestine Preservation Society, CMH Auxiliary, and enjoyed doing volunteer work in convalescent hospitals and hospice in California. A celebration of Carrie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4th at the Robinson First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jay Regennitter officiating, with fellowship and food following the service. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials will be made to the following organizations, and will be divided equally between the two. Checks may be made payable to the Robinson First United Methodist Church: UMCOR – the United Methodist Committee on Relief, an international humanitarian organization providing relief from hunger and disasters and teaching peace. ACE Afterschool and Summer Success Programs, providing nutrition, academic support and enrichment opportunities for low-income, at-risk youth for grades 3-12 in Crawford County. Envelopes will be available at the church, and at Goodwine Funeral Homes. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
