Chalmer Seaney, Jr., 93, of rural Robinson, IL, died at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. He was born August 8, 1922 in LaMotte Township, IL, the son of Chalmer Nimrod Seaney & May Kent, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Lavera Liston on August 10, 1945, and she too preceded him in death on December 4, 2014 after nearly 70 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jasper Seaney, Earl Seaney, and Esco Seaney in infancy; and by his sister, Marjorie Davids. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Angie & William Osborn (Robinson, IL); his grandchildren, Amber & Jeff Yargus and Brian & Chris Osborn; his great grandchildren, Rachl Houser, Korbin Murphy, and Haylee Smallwood; as well as several nieces and nephews. Junior was a 1940 graduate of Palestine High School, and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Back stateside, he went to work on the farm and also did some carpentry work on the side. When he wasn’t farming, he kept busy working. If he wasn’t mowing, he could be found gardening, a pastime that he enjoyed up until just a few years ago. He was a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, as well as the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Robinson. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Graveside services will follow the visitation on Wednesday and will be held at the Palestine Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549. Memorials may be made to the Ridgeview Care Center Activity Fund or to the Palestine Public Library, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
