Charles "Herb" Dart

Charles Herbert €œHerb€ Dart, 83, of Robinson died at 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. He was born April 23, 1929 in Oblong, the son of Mayo K. & Ester Clone Dart. He served his country as a paratrooper in the 188th Airborne from November, 1950 until December, 1952 during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion & V.F.W. He was a print setter for the Robinson Daily News for several years, before retiring in 1990.On May 1, 1954, Herb married Betty L. Hawkins, and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Connie Chiddix in 2011; his brother Robert, in infancy; and his sister, Lucille Hayden.Herb is survived by two sons and a daughter, Joe Dart & Judy Plummer (Stoy), Brian & Becky Dart (Robinson) and Amy Dart (Marshall); his grandchildren, Ryan & Beth Dart (Robinson), Ethan Dart (Robinson), Austin Dart (Robinson), Dylan Dart (Robinson), Miranda Dart (Marshall), Tony & Samantha Chiddix, USMC (California); his great-granddaughter Layla Dart (Robinson); two brothers, Kent & Irene Dart (Effingham) and Howard Dart (Independence, MO); four sisters, Arlene &Clell Keller (Robinson), Phyllis Jean Bixler (Newton), Rhonda Wolfe, (Decatur, AL), and Roberta & Jerry Robinson (Beverly Hills, FL); two sisters-in-law, Doris Doersam (Wood River, IL) and Pat Fletcher (Brazil, IN); as well as several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12th at Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine with Pastor Paul Phillips officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to The V.F.W. Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the cemetery, as well as the funeral home.
