Clarence Wheeler Jr.

Clarence Wheeler, Jr., 88 of Camden, AR, formerly of Palestine, IL, died on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden. He was born June 23, 1929 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Clarence B. Wheeler & Helen Marie (Barnes) Wheeler, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Doris Myers in 1951, and she preceded him in death in February 5, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Wheeler; by his sisters, Betty Nix, Audrey Shepard and Lavena Edigin; and by his brothers, Ralph Wheeler, He is survived by his daughter, Teresa & Richard Lowrance (Huntington, IN); by sons, Sonny & Kathy Wheeler (Camden, AR), Tony & Teresa Wheeler (Camden, AR), and Gary & Debbie Wheeler (Washington, IN); by his brothers, Prentice & Marian Wheeler (East Hampton, MA) and Norman & Lois Wheeler (Knoxville, TN); by his grandchildren, Shane Lowrance, Carol Lowrance, Tony Wheeler, Jr., Tania Harvey, Ben Wheeler, Kortney Gosnell, and Fred Smith; by several great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Clarence proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during combat. Back home, he dedicated his life to working the land as a farmhand. At home, he could often be found watching a wrestling match, often with a Three Musketeers bar or chocolate chip cookie in hand. He was often found riding his electric wheelchair barefoot or playing cards. Anyone who knew him could attest to the fact that he loved people, and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Friends and family alike have lost a caring, understanding soul in Clarence Wheeler, Jr. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23rd at the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Palestine, IL. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
