Dale Vaughn

Dale Vaughn, 97, of Robinson, IL, died at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson. He was born January 3, 1919 in Crawford County, the son of Thomas Oliver Vaughn & Grace Marie (King) Vaughn, both of whom preceded him in death. Dale married Thelma King Waggoner on Aug 10, 1940, and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2000. He then married Rose (Whitehouse) on June 5, 1989, and she preceded him in death on July 27, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Martha June (Vaughn) Ratliff, Lois Maxine (Vaughn) Hudson, and Sandra Elaine (Vaughn) Birch; and by his brother, Arthur Eugene Vaughn. He is survived by his step-daughter, Norma Lee (Waggoner) Jones; by his nephews, Denton Lee Ratliff and David Birch; by his nieces, Sherry Ratliff, Brenda Burk, and Sheri Vaughn; by his step-daughter, Carolyn (Sneddon) Wemple by his sister-in-law, Joann Vaughn; as well as his special friend, Sharon McSchooler. Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II, and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. By the time he was honorably discharged, he had earned numerous medals and citations, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Back home, he went to work for Marathon, and worked there for several years before retiring in 1977. Away from work, Dale enjoyed camping and vacationing to Georgia. In later years, he enjoyed meeting his buddies for coffee at Hardee’s. Dale was a people person, and will be remembered for always being there when he needed to be. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will follow and will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine, with military rites given by the V.F.W. Post #4549. Memorials may be made to either the V.F.W. Transportation Fund or to the Highland Church of Christ, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
