Darrell Delain Manhart, 87, of Palestine, IL, died at 9:48 a.m. (EST) on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born June 25, 1929 in Robinson, IL, the son of George Darrell Manhart & Fern Irene (Ogle) Manhart, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Loretta Privett on July 4, 1947, and she preceded him in death on August 4, 1995. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carol and Aura Rae; and one brother, Charles. He married Marilyn Skidmore on May 24, 1997, and she survives. Delain is also survived by his children & their spouses, Larry & Nelda Manhart, Beverly & Jerry Allison, Sheila & former husband, Bill Oliver, Vincent & Penny Manhart, William & Jeri Manhart, and Mark & Tonia Manhart; by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by his brother, Lewis Manhart; by his sister, Edith Tomany; by three step-children, Jimmy Skidmore, Tina Weger, and Lisa Skidmore; eight step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. A life-long farmer, Delain could almost always be found outdoors. In recent years, he and Marilyn spent time traveling. He was a dedicated member of the Trimble Bible Church, having taught Bible school and served as song leader for many years. He will long be remembered as a good-natured man who loved his family dearly. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1st at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2nd at the funeral home with Rev. David Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Trimble Bible Church (Church Camp Fund), with envelopes available at the funeral home.
