David I. Kelley

February 3, 1952 — April 30, 2022

David I. Kelley, 70, of Centralia, IL, passed away on April 30, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, IL. He was born on February 3, 1952, in Lawrenceville, IL, to Harl Kelley & Eva Kelley-Fleck, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Kelley and Silver "Lee" Kelley.

He is survived by his sisters & brothers-in-law, Sharon & Wayne Sisil and Susie & Tom Tucker; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces & nephews.

David grew up all over the area and eventually graduated from Oblong High School. As a young man, he did quite a bit of traveling, much of which was accomplished through hitchhiking. His fondness for travel was second only to his love of the written word. He expressed himself creatively through poetry and penned many impressive works over the years.

It was evident that he loved his family, as he always looked forward to reunions at his aunt's house in Lawrenceville. Here, they would gather for two or three hours every three months, just catching up and enjoying each other's presence. The last 20 years found David in Centralia, where he was receiving excellent care from the Community Resource Center. His family so appreciates all they have done for him.

David Kelley was, by all accounts, a special person who fought for his mental health throughout his 70 years. We are at peace knowing that this courageous fight is now over and are assured that he is now at rest.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9th, at the Hardinville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to his memorial fund, with checks made payable to "Goodwine Funeral Homes". The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
