Deborah Kaye DeLay, 66, of Alpharetta, Ga. passed away on June 28, 2016, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Debby was born on May 1, 1950, the daughter of James and Mary Jane (Baker) DeLay. She grew up in Metropolis, Ill. and graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1968. She attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where she earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. After graduating she moved to New York City where she began her career in retail as a Buyer Assistant at Lord & Taylor. In addition to many years working in the field of women’s retail clothing Debby owned and operated, along with her mother and brother Mike, The Bread Basket Caf in Germantown, Tn. Debby attended North Point Community Church in Alpharetta. She was a champion for her family and friends. Her love and passion was evident throughout her life as demonstrated by her generosity and the sacrifices she made for others. Debby’s dogs were always “members of her family” and she was involved in dog rescue organizations as well. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Mike and Matthew DeLay. She is survived by several cousins and their children and grandchildren as well as numerous dear friends throughout the country. Visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 2 at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine with the service to follow at 2:00. Burial will follow in the Fuller Cemetery, rural Montgomery Township. Memorials may be made to the Boston Terrier Rescue Ranch (BTRET), 6150 W. Dixie Highway, Rutledge, GA 30663.
