Dennis Keith Carder

June 19, 1951 — March 8, 2016

Dennis Keith Carder, 64, of rural Oblong, IL, went to his heavenly home at 4:17 a.m. on March 8, 2016, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 19, 1951 in Flora, IL, the youngest son of Lloyd Carder & Doris Patridge Carder. He truly was the baby of the family. He married his high school sweetheart Norma Crackel on June 11, 1971, who he loved dearly until she went to heaven on April 1, 2009. God blessed his life with Denise Maxwell, who he married on August 11, 2011 and loved until his home going. She will continue a legacy of love in memory of Dennis, as will his mother, Doris Carder; his daughter & son-in-law, Rachelle & Nate Ferguson (Channahon, IL) and their children, Kaden Ferguson and Carder Ferguson; and Denise’s children, Chris & Brandi Maxwell and their children, Audrey Maxwell and Taylor Maxwell; & Brooke & Chris Spradlin (Lexington, KY); his brothers & sisters-in-law, Floyd & Peg Carder (Litchfield, IL) and Darrell & Toni Carder (Clay City, IL); his sister & brother-in-law, Darlene & John Nevins (Marshall, IN); by his nieces and nephews, Shannon Burrow (Pleasant Hill, CA), Lesley Lineback (Mt. Olive, IL), Shelly Stokes (Litchfield, IL), Shane Carder (Flora, IL), Craig Carder (Flora, IL), Angie Millikan (Hillsboro, IN), Kirk Gill (Marshall, IN); and was also dearly loved by his extended family in California. He enjoyed most of his life in Crawford County, but also lived in Sailor Springs, IL, and Charleston, SC. Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Clay City High School, and went on to work many small jobs before starting work at Sears, where he was a salesman for twenty years. Following Sears, there was a year of fun selling Pioneer Labels and selling AmWay with Sam Bennett. He worked as a loan officer at the Oblong Branch and as a manager of the Robinson Branch of the First National Bank in Olney for a total of seventeen years. Away from work, Dennis could often be found outdoors. Recently, he enjoyed spending time on his tractor “Run-run” and his ATV “Henry” and in his shed. Fishing was his passion, and he spent many a day in his Ranger boat on Newton Lake. He also enjoyed hunting through the years, especially quail hunting. He was a charter member of the Crawford County Bass Anglers and was also a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong since the early 80s. He has attended Highland Church of Christ in Robinson for the last few years. One of his greatest accomplishments was being a wonderful Papaw to his four grandchildren. He will long be remembered for the love he gave to his family, friends, and especially to children. Love was truly Dennis’ strength and will continue to be his legacy. A time of visitation to honor Dennis will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11th at the Highland Church of Christ in Robinson, IL. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12th at the church. Services will be held at Dennis’ final resting place at 3:00 p.m. at the Dillman Cemetery, rural Sailor Springs, IL on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, you can honor Dennis’ wishes by supporting the church Nate and Rachelle planted, the Village Christian Church, P.O. Box 766, Minooka, IL 60447, with envelopes also available at the church or at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, who is in charge of arrangements.
