Doit Gene Reed, 81, of Robinson, died at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois. Doit was born January 18, 1933, in Orange Township, IL, the son of David Henry Reed & Muriel Cooper. He married Shirley Ann Goodwin on March 23, 1951. He farmed in the Annapolis area, and was an ordained minister. In 1965, Doit moved his family to California, where he attended Azusa Pacific Bible College. Returning to Annapolis in 1968, he was called to preach in several east central Illinois churches. In 1980, Doit helped establish and build Dayspring Christian Fellowship Church in Trimble. He retired as the Dayspring Pastor in 1998, and continued to be an active member of the congregation. Doit is survived by two sons & daughters-in law, Danny & Tracey Reed, Annapolis; Mark & Cathy Reed, Williamsport, IN; Cheryl Miller, Robinson & her friend, Scott Cherry, Annapolis; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Verlyn & Patsy Reed, Martinsville, IL; and several nieces & nephews. Doit was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley on April 10, 2008. He was also preceded by his parents, and his sister, Virginia Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Larry McCormick officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1st at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Oblong Children's Christian Home or the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, with envelopes at the funeral home.
