Don Murphy, 74, of Robinson, IL, died at 9:20 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 in the comfort of his home. He was born February 2, 1941 in Palestine, IL, the son of Perry Murphy & Imogene Lawhead Murphy. Don married Rhonda McCarter on July 10, 1982, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, George & Tina Murphy (Robinson, IL), John Murphy (Flat Rock, IL), Billie Jo & Chris Shook (Wooster, OH), Garland & Robin Murphy (rural Rushville, IN), Seth & Katie Murphy (Oblong, IL); his grandchildren, Jennifer Harris, Heather Murphy, Jamie Murphy, J.J. Murphy, Mandi Lindley, Trisha Murphy, Jack Murphy, Casey Stuart, Jacob Shook, Amberly & Robert Gill, Donald “Blaine” Murphy, and Alivia Murphy; his great-grandchildren, Christian, Caelyn, Mason, Nate, Bradley, and Zeke; Drew and Kaesen; and Blaze and Piper; his brother & sister-in-law, Bill & Pattie Murphy (Robinson, IL); his sister & brother-in-law, Patty & Gary Davis (Palestine, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Sharon; and his son, Donald “Scott” Murphy. Don was a longtime brick mason and contractor/owner of Murphy & Sons Masonry and was a member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #8 Illinois for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250 for over 50 years, where he served as Worshipful Master several times. He was also a member of the Valley of Danville Scottish Rite as well as the Ainad Shrine. As a Shriner, he was a part of the Crawford County Crazy Clown Unit. He was a charter member of the Palestine Eagles and was also a member of the Robinson Moose Lodge, the Robinson Elks Lodge, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Pearl Chapel United Methodist Church. He will be remembered for his love of children. He was an incredible husband, dad, and granddad. His family has lost a patriarch, a mentor, and a friend. Masonic rites will be performed at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL. Following the masonic rites, a time of visitation will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21st at the Pearl Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Fred White officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the New Hebron Christian School or to the Pearl Chapel United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at both the funeral home and the church.
