Donald Jerome Huss

Donald Jerome Huss, age 66, formerly of Palestine, IL, passed away at 6:40 am on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL following an extended illness. He was born on September 3, 1949 in Olney, IL, the son of LeRoy P. Huss and Florence H. (Hann) Huss. Don was an A.S.I. certified mechanic and machinist, notorious for repairing carburetors and transmissions. His leisure time was spent keeping vehicles running for his family and many friends. He was also a stock car mechanic and driver. Don was an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Don served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant over the Motor Pool in Thailand. His employment history included Smith’s Auto Repair, Robinson Auto Supply, and Fair-Rite Products. He is survived by a brother, Tom Huss, of Hutsonville; four sisters, Genie White, of Stoy, Angie Cornett, of Robinson, Nancy Truitt, of Robinson, and Reita (Bob) Duvall, of Hutsonville; a daughter, Megan Calvert, of Robinson, and two grandsons. He was especially proud of his six surviving nephews. Preceding Don in death was his father, LeRoy, in 1982; mother, Florence, in 2014; sister, Mary Beth Huss-Culler, in 2012; sister-in-law, Janet (East) Huss, in 2010; and a niece in 1988. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 11:30 am with Curt Goodwine officiating. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Palestine, will immediately follow the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Amvets Post #33 in Palestine, IL, to the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL, or to Good Samaritan Hospice in Vincennes, IN, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
