Dorothy "Dottie" Shelton

Dorothy Margaret “Dottie” (O’Bar) Shelton, 78 of West York, IL, died at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born August 9, 1936 in Coweta, OK, the daughter of T. Kenneth O’Bar & Iva M. (Beeman) O’Bar, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Russell S. Harbison, Phillip L. Harbison, Thomas K. O’Bar, and Gary J. O’Bar; two sisters, Rosalie K. O’Bar, Helen K. Roberts; and one granddaughter, Carrie L. Shull. She married John Shelton on February 14, 1990, and he survives. She is also survived by her three sons, Gregory A. Shull (West York, IL), Gene P. & Lola Shull (Cedar Rapids, IA), and Gary K. Shull (Greenwood, IN); two grandchildren, Allyssa Shull (Mount Carmel, IL) and Matthew Shull (Marion, IL); one great-grandson, Kalin Perry (Mount Carmel, IL); two step-sons & step-daughters-in-law, Mike & Mary Shelton and Mark & Teresa Shelton; five step-grandchildren, Andrea Jackson, Nicki Shaw, Michael Robert Shelton, Andrew Shelton, and Samantha Switzer; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Billie J. Brown (Fries, VA); as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dottie was a 1954 graduate of Robinson High School and went on to work various jobs throughout her life, including the Hollywood Shop, Goodyear Tire, and R&L Readymix. Away from work, Dottie was an avid collector of many things. She was a regular face at auctions, flea markets, and garage sales. She also loved living out in the country where she could indulge her love for dogs, cats, and animals of all sorts. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion Auxiliary Post #69, and a proud member of the Creek Nation. Dottie will be remembered as a vibrant and loving person. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone she ever met or knew with kindness and compassion. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21st at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22nd at the funeral home with Pastor Art Orndorff officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Medsker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Medsker Cemetery, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
