Dorothy Mae Preston

Dorothy Mae Preston, 92, of Mount Carmel, IL, formerly of the Flat Rock, IL area, died at 2:32 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care & Rehabilitation Center in Mount Carmel. She was born August 29, 1920,in Lawrenceville, IL the daughter of Allen Carithers & Mae Pinkstaff Carithers. Dorothy loved gardening & flowers. She was well known for her wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and homemade goodies. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in rural Palestine.On August 28, 1937, Dorothy married Raymond Preston, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2004 after 66 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Karen Mathes; her son, Wayne Preston; and her granddaughter, Katrina (Preston) Hulfachor.She is survived by three children & their spouses, Mark Preston (Robinson, IL), Donna & Doug Painter (Allendale, IL) and Darla & Rob Windes (Allendale); her grandchildren, Laurel Preston, Andy Preston, Amber (Preston) Pettigrew, Karla (Mathes) Burck, Kevin Mathes, Kyle Mathes, Krystle (Windes) Leach, Alex Windes, Tyler Windes, and Kris (Preston) Bates; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mildred Hodge (Indianapolis, IN); as well as several nieces, nephews, and family members.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 12th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Rev. Deron Colgan will conduct the services. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11th at the funeral home.
