Edmond George Halter

Edmond George Halter, 80, of rural Robinson, died at 2:25 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson, IL. He was born November 4, 1934 in Lawrence County, the son of Edmond Nicholas Halter & Barbara Ann (Kocher) Halter. Ed graduated at the age of 16 from Lawrenceville High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong farmer in Crawford and Lawrence Counties. Ed was a devout parishioner of Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Robinson. He served his community as a member of the Palestine Unit #3 School Board, the LaMotte Creek Watershed District Board, and the Regional Office of Education (ROE #12) Board. Ed married Rosemary Arteman on November 19, 1960, and she survives. He is also survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeff Rich, Susan and Scott Goodwine, Janet and Steven Jenkins, Mary Ann and Lantz Griffin; his grandchildren, Travis and Leslie Rich, Garrett Rich and fiance, Emilee Hoalt, Nic and Kiley Goodwine, Kayla Goodwine, Alayna Griffin, Connor Griffin, Emily Jenkins and fianc, Ben Rardin, Melissa, David, and Matthew Jenkins; and his brother, Raymond Halter. He was preceded in death by his parents. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27 at the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Robinson with Father Aloysius Okey Ndeanaefo and Father Richard Weltin officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Palestine Grant-In-Aid Scholarship Fund, Saint Elizabeth Youth Group, or Oak Grove Cemetery Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
