Edward H. Tohill

Edward H. Tohill, 91 of Flat Rock, IL, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center in Robinson following a period of declining health. Edward was the Flat Rock Postmaster from 1958 to 1984. During WWII, he served in the 13th Armored Division of the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1946, some of which was in Germany. He and his wife were members of the South Union Church, rural Flat Rock. He was born April 18, 1922 in Flat Rock, the son of Charles and Mary Magill Tohill. He married Hazel Mae Weger May 6, 1944 and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2007. He was also preceded by his parents; brothers, William (Billy), Charles, Lewis and David Tohill; his sister, Maxine Lackey; his half-sister, Mary Lindsey; a niece Rochelle Holtsman; and two nephews, Rodney Tohill and John Taggart.Survivors include two daughters, Fayetta Wilber, rural Palestine, IL, Sherry (Jim) Schaefer, New Palestine, IN; grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Brown, Terre Haute, IN, Karen Wilber, Indianapolis, IN, Kevin (Emily) Wilber, Flat Rock, and Libby (Jacob) Gardner, New Palestine, IN; great grandchildren, Joshua and Britani Harvey, Terre Haute, IN, his brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Lila) Tohill, Lawrenceville; a sister, Rose Marie Taggart, Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock with Danny Dennis in charge of services. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to service time at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, Robinson American Legion Post #69; Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549; and the Amvets Post #33.Memorials may be made to the South Union Church, rural Flat Rock.
