Edward Leon Hargis

Edward Leon Hargis, 85, of Robinson, IL, died at 1:53 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson. He was born April 7, 1930 in Robinson, IL, the son of Andrew Hargis & Nadine Hargis. He married Mary Lou Garrard on July 8, 1949, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Sharon Nadine Price (East Alton, IL) and Janice Lea & Brian Woodard (Palestine, IL); his five granddaughters & their spouses, Nikki Newman (Palestine, IL), Lori Grace (Cadot, WI), Joy & Travis Miller (Robinson, IL), Deena & Brett Hagen (O’Fallon, MO) Shara Price (Cahokia, IL); his step-grandson, Nicholas Woodard; twelve great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; his brother & sister-in-law, David & Linda Hargis (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mabel Hoener, Thelma Howard, Barbara Havil, Hazel Plunkett, Helen Turner, Alice Steffel, Viola Strange and Janice Radell; by his brother, James Hargis; and by one great-granddaughter. Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Back home, he was an electrician, working for CIPS for 26 years before starting his own electrical business. Away from work, he enjoyed camping and square dancing, a passion that led him to spend time as a square dance caller and instructor. He will long be remembered for his love he had for animals and for living life his way. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Memorials may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
