Evelyn J. Wheeler

August 8, 1931 — October 4, 2017

Evelyn J. Wheeler went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 4, 2017. She was met at Heaven’s gate by her husband, John R. Wheeler, who passed on October 31, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Willis, Richard, Lloyd, Franklin D., Roy Duane (Major), and Jerry; by her sisters, Eris and Judith Carol; and by her great-granddaughter, Brynna Love. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Murray & Joene Wheeler (West York, IL); by her daughter & son-in-law, Barbara & Richard McCrory (Annapolis, IL); by her grandchildren, Zack & Cara Wheeler (West York, IL), Johnny McCrory & Amy Harness (Shelbyville, IN), Tawnya & Ryan Love (Hutsonville, IL), and Qynn & Lainey McCrory (Kingman, IN); by her brother & sister-in-law, Larry & Kelly Lindley (Marshall, IL); as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Evelyn was a longtime member of the West Union First Baptist Church, where she was involved with the kitchen committee, helping with countless special meals. She didn’t just cook for church, but was always taking meals to people. Anyone who knew her could attest to the fact that she didn’t let dust settle, and was always on the go. When she wasn’t, you could often find her embroidering or working on her beloved jigsaw puzzles. Evelyn took on many roles through her life: wallpaper hanger, school cook, housecleaner, farm wife, and caregiver of her siblings; but most importantly, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family has lost not only a matriarch, but a friend and advocate as well. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, IL. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Nave officiating the service. A private family burial will be held in the Bailiff Cemetery. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lincolnland Hospice or to the Bailiff Cemetery Fund in Evelyn’s memory.
