Florence Jean Cawood

Florence Jean Cawood, 92, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Franciscan Communities Hospice, Michigan City, IN. She was born December 25, 1924, in Robinson, IL, to Allen Clare and Florence Grace (Crozier) McGahey. Florence was a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Griffith, Indiana, Chapter 583. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. Florence was very energetic and young at heart. On August 22, 1942, in Robinson, IL, she married Charles Cawood, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Eugene McGahey; and many other beloved sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. Surviving are her four children, Loretta (Danny) Hicks of Springfield, MO, Janet (Paul) Hendron of La Porte, Susan (Glen) Claussen of Oconomowoc, WI, and Deborah Harwood of La Porte; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th at the Jones Cemetery in rural Flat Rock, IL with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements.
