Gary Williamson

Gary Williamson, 67, died on October 6, 2019 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. He was born on December 13, 1951, in Palestine, IL, the son of Marion Williamson & Bernetta Williamson, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons, Craig Williamson (Renuka Tipirneni) of Ann Arbor, MI and Kent Williamson (Cynna Gonzalez) of Marion, IL; by his sister, Karen Sweat of Robinson, IL; and his grandchildren, Devin and Emily Williamson. Gary grew up in the Palestine area and was a 1970 graduate of Palestine High School. He became the first in his family to graduate college, earning diplomas from Wabash Valley Community College in 1972, and from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1974 with a degree in Agriculture. He obtained an additional degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University as well. He worked in agriculture and education for many years. Gary will be remembered for his kindness, work ethic, intellect, and his dignity and acceptance in the face of hardship. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Palestine and later, the First Christian Church of Vienna, IL, it was evident that faith played an important role in Gary’s life. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 11:00 on Saturday with Pastor Karen Russell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the “First Christian Church of Vienna”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
