Gayle Dean Meeker

Gayle Dean Meeker, 76 of rural Palestine, IL, died at Burnside Nursing Home in Marshall, IL at 8:28 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013. He was born January 18, 1937 in Hutsonville Township, Crawford County, IL, the son of Gordon Wilbur Meeker and Leah Maxine Gurley Meeker. Gayle was a farmer and had worked for over 10 years for Turner Sand and Gravel as a dredge operator.He married Carol Sligar on December 13, 1963 and she survives. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gayle Dean Jr. and Beth Meeker, Marshall; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl Meeker, rural Palestine, and Nancy and Rob Smitley, Marshall; 5 grandchildren, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Theresa Meeker, Vineland, NJ, Roger Keith and Linda Meeker, Hoopston, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 7th at 10:00 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Brother Joe Griffith is in charge of services. Burial will be in the Hutsonville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday August 6th, and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to service time at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Lincolnland Hospice with envelopes at the funeral home.
