Gene Clark

Walter Eugene “Gene” Clark, 92, of rural Flat Rock, IL, died at 2:05 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 in the comfort of his home. He was born March 26, 1923 in Slick, OK, the son of Willard Clark & Grace Daron Clark, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Jetta Rea Knoblett on July 5, 1947, and she preceded him in death on June 22, 2007, having shared nearly 60 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Clark in 1991, Don Clark in 2013; and by his sisters, Carolyn Montgomery in 1947, Mildred Newman in 2008, Margaret Pluta in 2013, and Betty Haak in 2015. He is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Vickie Clark (Flat Rock, IL) and Gary & Jane Clark (Flat Rock, IL); 3 granddaughters, Kellie & Larry Levitt (Hebron, IN), Jeannie Clark (Bridgeport, IL), and Penny Faulkner (Flat Rock, IL); 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Sue Clark (Porterville, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during WWII. Back stateside, he worked as a well driller for many years before retiring from Operating Engineers Local #150 in 1983. In his retirement, he enjoyed staying active and could often be found working around the farm. He was a member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church and the Robinson American Legion Post #69. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Services will follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery, with military rites to be performed by the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
