Genelle N. PhillippeGenelle N. Phillippe, 86, 426 E. Locust St., Columbia, IL, formerly of Robinson, IL, passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law€™s home, June 21, 2012 at 6:22 a.m.Born May 11, 1926, in Hunt City, IL, she was the daughter of Albert H. Laws and Flossie (Cox) Laws.During the WWII war emergency, Genelle was recruited as an elementary teacher in Coulterville, IL. She received her teaching certificate and taught 4th grade. She studied in the summer the required courses at Eastern Illinois University. She later sold real estatefor Jim Hill Reality in the Robinson area.Genelle enjoyed the Fox Theater in St. Louis, the St. Louis Symphony. She liked to bowl at the Robinson Bowling Alley in her younger years, as well as being an accomplished seamstress. Above all her family meant everything.On June 1, 1947, she married Gilbert W. Phillippe, who preceded her in death in July 21, 2009. She made many sacrifices to follow her husband in his career with Marathon Oil Co., always making a home for her family. Also preceding her in death were her parents, an infant brother Gene Laws, and her sister, Doris Huckett. She is survived by her son Mark (Marcia) Phillippe, Scottsboro, AL, her daughter, Gwen (Michael) Snyder of Columbia, IL, 4 grandchildren, Laura (Shawn) Eagan of Belleville, IL, Mark (Rachel) Duncan of Washington, MO, Jason (Haley) Phillippe of Scottsboro, AL, John Phillippe of Port Clinton, OH, 5 great grandchildren, Luke, Levi, Bridget, Claire and Kaitlyn.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29th, at The Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Reverend Tom Akers is in charge of services. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in Robinson. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Robinson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL 62220-2159 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
