Geraldine "Gerry" L. (Swope) Mccrory

Geraldine “Gerry” L. (Swope) McCrory, 87, of Robinson, IL died at 8:53 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born on February 23, 1928 in Porterville, IL, the daughter of Olan R. & Berneace Chapman Swope. Gerry married James O. McCrory on January 17, 1947 and he survives. Also surviving are one son & daughter-in-law, James Noble (Judy) McCrory of Lawrenceville; two daughters & a son-in-law, Janice Davis of Robinson and Cindy (Richard) Ackman of Grant, FL; her brother and sisters-in-law, Larry (Cindy) Swope of Anna, IL, and Wanda Swope of Robinson, IL; 5 grandchildren, Darren (Carmen) Davis of Robinson, IL, Sara Davis of Robinson, IL, Perry (Andrea) Davis of Strasburg, IL, Jacie (Aaron) Carter of Lawrenceville, IL, Jennifer (Bill) Lind of Hoopeston, IL; 3 step-grandchildren, Christina (Tom) Hess of Vincennes, IN, Troy (Sandy) Ackman of Johnsburg, IL, and Lani Ackman of Shelbyville, IL; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bob Swope; and son-in-law, Gary L. Davis. Gerry was a 1946 graduate of Robinson High School. Primarily a homemaker throughout her married life, she also worked part-time as an Avon representative and a sales clerk at The Hollywood women’s clothing store. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed all types of handcrafting. She held past memberships with the auxiliaries of the veterans’ organizations and Ladies of the Elks. Her church affiliation was with the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Robinson. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Immediately following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Palestine. Her nephew, Joe Dean Griffith, will officiate. Memorials may be given in her honor to Good Samaritan Hospice or to the VFW #4549 Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
