Harold L. Dunlap

Harold L. Dunlap, 63, of rural Robinson, IL, died at 5:33 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 in the comfort of his home following a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was born October 24, 1951 in Birds, IL, the son of Wilbur Dunlap & Dorothy Kent Dunlap, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Brown, Deloris McKimmy Keys, Arlene Matheney, and Mary Collins; and by his brother-in-law, Don Agan. He married Tonja Butcher on July 3, 1971, and she survives. He is also survived by his son, Hunter Dunlap (Robinson, IL); by his daughter, Tasha Dunlap (Robinson, IL); by his sisters, Alice Coonce & husband Kenny (Robinson, IL), Betty Agan (Palestine, IL), Judy Plummer (Robinson, IL); by his brother-in-law, Ed Collins; as well as by several nieces and nephews. Harold served his country for three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Back stateside, he served in the National Guard for another three years. He was a longtime union painter before retiring in 2010 from Hershey, where he worked as a cook and in the sanitation department. After retiring, he worked at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts for a time as a delivery man. Away from work, he was an avid outdoorsman, having enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, mushroom hunting, and arrowhead hunting for many years. He will be remembered as a simple man who enjoyed the peace and quiet of the countryside. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15th at the Jones Cemetery in rural Flat Rock, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of graveside services. Following the graveside, the family will host a gathering of friends and family at the South Union Community Building.
