Harold Sexton

Harold Julius Sexton, 85, of Robinson, IL died at 6:55 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital Vincennes, IN. He was born on March 27,1932 in Hardinville, IL, the son of William “Bill” & Lefvonia (Weaver) Sexton. He married Lorretta Lackey on July 18, 1953, she survives. He is also survived by his children, Harold W. & Connie Jo Sexton (West York, IL), Suzie & Doug Shaffer (Robinson, IL), Alan K. Sexton (Robinson, IL), Ronald E. & Cathy Sexton (Flora, IL), and Lois Sexton; by his grandchildren, Shannon, Michelle, Brandy, Tami, Rene, Yvonne, Brian, Alan Jr., Jessica, Lana, and Shane; by his 18 great-grandchildren; by his uncle, Clyde & Nadine Weaver (Cadiz, KY); by his aunt, Mary Weaver (Oblong, IL); by his sisters-in-law, Marlene Sexton, Nina & Dwight Pethtel, and Katharyn Meese; by his brothers-in-law, Chuck Randles and Wayne & Sue Lackey; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his siblings, Hilda Randles, Mary Pauline Sexton (in infancy), Wayne & Marie Sexton, Warren Sexton, Martha & Tom Obst; and by his grandson, St. Mark Sexton. Harold proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 1949 to December 1952, having worked in the motor pool while stationed in Germany. Back home, he continued working on cars and ran a garage for several years. An avid worker, he spent quite a bit of time in the oilfields and was also employed at Briggs Pottery for 41 years and 7 months, where he worked in maintenance. During the rare occasion he wasn’t busy working, he would enjoy camping with his family. If it was a Saturday morning, you knew where to find Harold: sitting in front of his television, watching Tom & Jerry or the Roadrunner. He was a longtime and active member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. Harold was also a 50-year member of the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Masonic services will be given by the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250 following the visitation and will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 7th at the New Hope Baptist Church in Robinson. Burial will follow in the Hardinville Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69, and Marine Corps League Det #546, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Brother Gene Ellis will officiate the services. Memorials may be made to the Oblong Christian Children’s Home, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
