James David “J.D.” McKee, 77, of Robinson, IL, died on July 15, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born April 14, 1939 in Robinson, the son of Lester “Mickey” Wilson McKee & Opal M. (Gibson) McKee, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Herman “Hank” & Laura Taylor; and by his sister-in-law, Susie Wesley. He married Linda Taylor on October 14, 1961, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Jeff & Kathy McKee (Robinson, IL); by his daughter & son-in-law, Lisa & Todd Higgins (Indianapolis, IN); by his grandchildren, Lindsay & Ryan McKay (Indianapolis, IN), Jenna McKee & fianc Jason Silvey (Indianapolis, IN), Mackenzie Higgins & fianc Sheuna Pinder (Indianapolis, IN), Riley Higgins (Indianapolis, IN), Tanner Higgins (Indianapolis, IN); by his step-granddaughter, Brittany Marqua (Terre Haute, IN); by his sisters & brothers-in-law, Mary Jo & Bob Billingsly (Robinson, IL), and Connie & Dwain Peak (Iberia, OH); by his sisters-in-law, Jeannie & Zel Adams, and Sherry Skidmore; by his brother-in-law, Mike Wesley; by his aunt, Lena Wilman; as well as several nieces or nephews. J.D. was a 1957 graduate of Robinson High School, and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. Back home, he worked as an operating engineer for the CIPS/Ameren Power Plant in Hutsonville for over thirty years. Away from work, he could often be found driving around the countryside, enjoying nature. He also enjoyed fishing, shooting trap, gun-smithing, and making knives, and woodworking with his dad. He will long be remembered for his love of model airplanes and for his love of cooking. More than anything, J.D. loved his family, who have lost a patriarch, role model, and friend. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Masonic services being held by the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 19th at 10:30 a.m. at the Oak Ridge United Methodist Church in rural Flat Rock, with Pastor Fred White officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Tohill Cemetery, with military rites being conducted by the combined Robinson V.F.W. Post 4549, Robinson American Legion Post 69, Flat Rock American Legion Post 132, and Palestine AmVets Post 33. As he was a direct descendant of Joseph LaMotte, memorials in J.D.’s memory may be made to Fort LaMotte, and may also be made to the National Kidney Foundation, with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
