James E. Flenner, 90, of Robinson, IL, died at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. He was born March 19, 1927 in Martinsville, IL, the son of Clarence & Louise (Thompson) Flenner, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Flenner and Lyle Flenner; and by his son, Steve Flenner (Robinson, IL). He is survived by his children, Scott Flenner & longtime companion, Linde Kinney (Robinson, IL), Sharon & Duane Gulley (Harrisburg, IL) and Sheila & Brent Smith (Robinson, IL); by ten grandchildren; by several great-grandchildren; by his sister, June Agan (Palestine, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was stationed in the Far East. We all owe Jim a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices he made in the name of freedom. He was a lifetime member of the Robinson VFW Post #4549, the Palestine Amvets Post #33, and the Lawrenceville Military Order of the Cootie #48. He was also a longtime member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250, the St. Louis Ainad Shrine, and the Bible Chapel Church. He worked for the Robinson School District for 20 years in the Maintenance Department before retiring a number of years ago. Following his retirement, he was employed at Stewart Security for a time. Away from work, Jim enjoyed camping, a pastime he enjoyed for many years. He also spent quite a bit of time on the road on his motorcycle. It was Jim’s wish to be cremated, and a private family burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
